General counsel and president legal, tax and insurance | BASF Group
Ludwigshafen headquartered BASF Group is the world’s largest chemical producer and contains a legal department comprised of approximately 190 in-house lawyers. The Group’s legal division is spearhead by Dr Wolfgang Haas, the company’s general counsel and president of legal, tax and insurance. Having worked for BASF since 1994, Dr Haas has built up an almost unrivalled understanding of the company’s extensive business operations and future growth ambitions. As such he is playing a leading role on BASF’s currently ongoing €5.9bn purchase of assets within Bayer’s seed and herbicide businesses. The company’s chief executive, Kurt Bock, said of the assets acquired that ‘it will be a strategic complement to BASF’s well-established and successful crop protection business as well as to our own activities in biotechnology’. Before BASF, Haas worked at Wintershall, Germany’s largest internationally active producer of crude oil and natural gas, for two years.
