How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
In times of crisis, teams need to be particularly flexible and must maintain a positive attitude despite any obstacles that arise. Acting as an ‘enabler’ and team player, with an understanding of and interest in the business, is, in my view, essential. A strong team spirit is also very important.
What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?
Loan refinancings, issuance of senior notes under New York law, and ship deliveries.
How do you measure the impact of ESG initiatives on the company’s overall performance and reputation?
In my view, the impact of ESG initiatives on the company’s overall performance and reputation is significant. Major investments are being made to improve our environmental performance in particular. The importance of ESG is recognised, and the topic is actively promoted. At the same time, new laws and legal requirements—not only in respect of ESG—are constantly emerging, creating new challenges. Bureaucracy is increasing as a result.
How have you integrated technology into your legal processes, and what impact has this had on efficiency and compliance?
We have not yet integrated much new technology into our legal processes, as relevant parts had already been digitalised beforehand. However, we are exploring more advanced and integrated systems (covering review, analysis, drafting, execution, and maintenance) to improve efficiency and reduce duplication of work.
