How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During times of crisis, it is important for the legal department to remain focused on the essentials. Clear structures and task allocations must already be established before the crisis in order to ensure that a reliable assessment and advice can be guaranteed during the crisis.

I try to build resilience into my legal strategy by closely involving my team in current issues and maintaining a regular exchange with the key responsible managers in the company and the legal department.

The legal strategy is derived directly from the corporate strategy. The objectives of the individual legal managers are in turn derived from departmental objectives. On the one hand, this ensures that the goals all contribute to the corporate goals set by the management, but also that the understanding of personal goals is strengthened.

What are the main cases or transactions that you have been involved in recently?

The most important topic is the company’s first collective agreement. We negotiated for over a year to achieve the best possible result with the right union.

How do you measure the impact of ESG initiatives on the company’s overall performance and reputation?

As an aviation company in particular, the environmental aspect naturally has a major impact on the company’s behaviour. We therefore offer so-called Green Fares to enable our customers to offset their CO2 footprint. We have also developed our own sustainability strategy with defined targets and are working towards EMAS certification. We also have a comprehensive survey of our customers with regard to sustainability standards and measure our success against this. Every decision made by the management includes whether this decision serves sustainability.

How have you integrated technology into your legal processes, and what impact has this had on efficiency and compliance?

We work daily on the automation of our legal processes, particularly in the area of claims processing. For example, we have installed a bot that automatically loads messages from the special electronic lawyer’s mailbox. We are also working on automatically introducing text modules for complaints to make work easier.
