Can you tell us about your journey to becoming an in-house counsel? What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
During my school days and subsequent apprenticeship at a bank, I realised that I wanted to work as a lawyer in a company, at the interface between economic-legal and economic-operational areas, to help solve problems and minimise risks.
I was inspired by the international and interdisciplinary cooperation with people who think and operate in different ways.
In your role as an in-house counsel, what are the main responsibilities and tasks you handle on a day-to-day basis?
My main responsibilities include evaluating issues and, in particular, problems that my company and associated investors face from a legal perspective, and overseeing and managing how they are dealt with.
What are some of the key challenges you have faced as a rising star in-house counsel, and how have you overcome them?
The key challenges regularly consist of concisely presenting legal contexts and hurdles in such a way that operationally driven areas can work successfully with them while still taking the legally important aspects into account.
What steps have you taken to enhance your professional development and expand your legal skill set?
In order to further develop my knowledge of commercial law, but particularly in the area of compliance, I recently completed a postgraduate course of study with an LL.M. in Corporate Law & Compliance. I also try to gain as much additional knowledge as possible from the law firms and notary public that work with us.
