Pala Charlotte Asiedu Ofori is a lawyer with 30 years of experience in Corporate and Commercial Law, with expertise in Advanced Company Law and Corporate Governance practice, 20 years of which have been within the Telecoms Industry.
She commenced her legal journey as a Legal Officer (National Service) with the Copyright Administration Office, where she, among other things, supported arbitration processes for copyright infringement. She joined Bentsi-Enchill & Letsa, a renowned law firm in Ghana as an Associate where she worked for 5 years until she left to pursue an LLM at the University of Cape Town. Thereafter, she worked with JLD Legal Consultancy Services in Ghana as a Senior Consultant for two years after which she joined the Y’ello Family, Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) as the Senior Manager, Commercial Legal Affairs within the Corporate Services Division.
Pala set up the MTN Ghana Legal Department, and as head of the Commercial Legal and Company Secretarial function, she led a 7-member team internal team as well as External Solicitors, to deliver Legal and Company Secretarial services to the Company. She worked in various capacities in the Corporate Services Division of MTN Ghana, supporting overall divisional strategy. She set up the MTN Ghana Foundation and was also a Founding member of the Ghana Telecoms Chamber.
From 2016, as the in-house Legal and Company Secretarial team lead, Pala was instrumental in the Company’s transition from a private company to a public company listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, via a landmark Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 2018, leading to a Shareholder base of circa 127,000.
Following the listing of the Company, and the complexities of operating in a listed environment, Pala now heads the Company Secretarial function, and is Company Secretary to MTN Ghana and its subsidiaries.
Pala holds a degree from the University of Ghana Legon (LLB) and graduated from the Ghana School of Law (BL). She also holds a Master of Laws Degree (LLM) awarded with Distinction from the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. As part of the course leading to the award of the LLM, she submitted a dissertation on “Approaches Towards Internet Content Regulation for the Protection of Minors”. Pala is passionate about the development of successors and especially matters concerning the youth. She has had several public speaking engagements on fora such as Springboard, and God as CEO. She is currently a member of the Board of Regents of Daniel Institute and a member of the Board of Trustees of Central Aid, Ghana.
