Career Biography

Valerie Lily Ackwerh oversees all governance, legal and compliance matters (including Anti-Money Laundering) in the Group. She has extensive knowledge and experience in the Financial Services industry, especially in banking and insurance, having practiced as a corporate lawyer in these sectors for several years. She is passionate about and has a deep understanding of corporate governance. Valerie worked as an Associate in the Law Firm of Sam Okudzeto & Associates, and then as Corporate Counsel for Access Bank Ghana Plc where she was also Board Secretary. She moved on to set up and head the Legal Department and Company Secretariat of Pan-African Savings and Loans Company LTD. Prior to joining Hollard, Valerie was the Head Legal & Company Secretary for United Bank for Africa (Ghana) LTD. Valerie holds a Joint Honours degree in Law and Psychology from the University of Wales Swansea, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Law- Birmingham (United Kingdom). She was admitted to the Ghana Bar after obtaining the QCL (Certificate of Call) from the Ghana School of Law. She is a member of the Ghana Bar Association.
