What will the main focus of your company be over the next few months and how do you intend to assist with this?
Although in its current form we are only a year old, MHV and the management team have already successfully created partnerships with renowned brands that fit the company’s long-term strategy and launched significant construction projects during a turbulent time globally but even more so in the hospitality and real estate industries.
Our focus over the next few months will be on several large construction and renovation projects that are in the pipeline or just breaking ground to develop our assets for risk-adjusted return such as the renovation of the Landmark Hotel in Nicosia (long renowned as the hotel of choice for politicians and visiting dignitaries) and adjacent residential and commercial towers. All this while continuing to identify opportunities for efficiencies and growth across the portfolio.
As a lean legal function, the focus will be supporting our business units to achieve their objectives and where possible doing so in a value-added way through the use of technology, training and policies.
How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected the company and the team’s priorities?
Being a company that is active in both real estate and hospitality, climate change and sustainability are key priorities. We have the advantage of being an early-stage company which presents both challenges – as we look to establish ourselves and achieve our growth objectives – but also opportunities as we can build ESG principles into the DNA of our policies and standard operating procedures allowing us to positively impact our communities and future proof the company and its portfolio. Our ESG committee (which I have recently joined) is up and running with the full support of the management team and shareholders and the offices being constructed at The Landmark Nicosia will have a Gold LEED Accreditation.
What do you predict will be the biggest change to the legal market in your region, in the next few years?
The legal market in Cyprus has faced unprecedented challenges recently, for several external factors, however it has a proven track record of adapting and evolving as a result of challenges. Key developments will be whether the on-going modernisation of the Cyprus court system will be achieved and to what extent. If the courts can adapt to reduce time to obtain judgement I believe this will be a dramatic shift from current legislative timelines and positively impact all areas of the Cypriot business community.
