What are the most significant cases or transactions you and your team have been involved in?
The legal team is responsible for supporting the company’s WW channels and ecosystems. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is the edge to cloud platform as a service lead company worldwide and our ecosystem of partners plays a critical role in our ability to offer our solutions to customers. Our main purpose in HPE is to advance the way people work and live. HPE legal is involved in the most high-profile partnerships of the company, supporting new business model set-ups, necessary negotiations and partnership programs. Pivoting to a service company, we offer a unique premise cloud offering, called GreenLake solution. My team ensures that the appropriate contractual and programmatic background is established for our business to seamlessly collaborate with our partners and alliances. We act as business partners to our internal business clients covering a range of legal matters.
In what ways do you see the in-house legal role evolving in your region over the next few years?
The ability of the legal professionals to efficiently handle the never-seen-before challenges of the pandemic has established the role of in-house counsel as an indispensable pillar of the modern businesses. Business functions started to appreciate the value added by in-house counsel over the pandemic whilst managing the following challenges: HR constraints and remote working, business continuity and delivery of essential services, supply chain constrains and force majeure, collections issues and customer support.
Looking forward, what technological advancements do you feel will impact the role of in-house legal teams in the future the most?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will replace a great part of the administrative work of in-house counsel. Legal information is already a click away for non-lawyers and basic regulatory risk assessment can be easily accessed without any help from a qualified attorney. With the use of AI, in-house lawyers will be able to free up their time to focus on value-added work and business legal risk assessment. For instance, remote collaborations on document drafting have already reduced the time spent on such.
