Maria Kazamia
Associate general counsel - head of South Zone, EMEA | AIG
Insurance giant AIG’s branch in Greece is ably assisted by the talented and experienced associate general counsel Maria Kazamia, who heads legal support across the company’s South Zone, EMEA region. The region, which was created during a business restructure that divided all of AIG’s operations in the EMEA area into different sub-regions, consists of AIG’s activities in the countries of Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain, and comes with a variety of challenges due to the different cultures and legal aspects endemic in them.
In dealing with these challenges, and in addition to her track record of flexibility and multinational legal support, Kazamia can point to a number of prestigious companies in her résumé having spent over five years at KPMG at the start of her career in an executive consultant role, after which she became a global legal and compliance manager at Barclays in London. Between 2005 and 2007 Kazamia was a regulatory compliance specialist at Eurobank in Athens, after which she first joined AIG in the role of country counsel for Greece in 2008 and assumed her current position in 2013.
