How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?
Managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises requires a proactive, strategic, and flexible approach. This can be achieved, for example, by prioritising legal issues based on their potential impact on business continuity, conducting regular risk assessments to identify potential legal vulnerabilities, or staying ahead of regulatory changes that may affect the organisation. Especially during crises, the legal department needs to work closely with executive leadership and key business units to understand the organisation’s priorities and challenges. This approach not only helps mitigate risks but also positions the legal function as a strategic partner in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities that may arise during turbulent times.
What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?
Artificial Intelligence, without a doubt. On the one hand, AI legal tools will soon become a valuable and necessary asset in the hands of a legal counsel. In fact, our legal department is already working to integrate some of these tools into our day-to-day responsibilities, such as the drafting of straightforward agreements or non-disclosure agreements. Moreover, the lawful production and use of AI software is rapidly becoming a crucial item on the legal agenda, particularly for technology lawyers. Given that our company operates in the technology sector, my corporate legal team and I stay updated on developments in the legal framework for AI by participating in seminars and/or relevant postgraduate studies. This enables us to tackle any legal challenges that may arise and ensure the legitimate production and use of the company’s software products, insofar as they fall within the scope of the new legal framework for AI.
