He was born in Athens in 1972. He studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and holds a postgraduate degree (LL.M. in International Business Law) from University College London, where he had been Head of the Banking and Finance Department since 2010.
He has more than 25 years of experience in Greek and International Banking and Regulation, Finance, Restructuring, and Securities Transactions, and he is ranked amongst the top Greek lawyers by the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), the Legal 500 guide, and Chambers and Partners.
He started his career in 1999 at Koutalidis Law Firm, where he had been Head of the Banking and Finance Department since 2010. Highlights of his career in private practice include advice to: Deutsche Telekom on the acquisition of 40% of OTE; Fraport-Copelouzos JV on the financing of the €1.2bn upfront concession for the 14 Regional Airports Project; Credit Agricole on the €4bn sale of Emporiki Bank; The Super Senior Lenders on Wind Hellas’ €3.5bn and €1.8bn restructurings; BC Partners on the €1bn LBO of Regency and its debt restructuring; Alpha Bank on regulatory issues, M&As, and strategic transactions since 1999.
He also participated in the legal team that acted for the Steering Committee of Private Creditors of Greece on the EUR 206bn debt restructuring of the Hellenic Republic (PSI), advising ISDA on the deliverability of Greek bonds under the CDS.
In March 2019, he joined Alpha Bank as Chief Legal and Governance Officer and Member of the Executive Committee, leading the legal aspects of the transformation of the bank through the hive-down of its banking sector, the spin-off of its servicing business, the NPE deleveraging of its balance sheet, and Alpha Bank’s share capital increase in 2021. In 2022, he returned to Koutalidis Law Firm, while also taking up the role of Special Legal Counsel to the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Alpha Bank, making a key contribution to the implementation of critical and strategic transactions, such as the Strategic Partnership of Alpha Bank with UniCredit.
On 1 April 2024, he returned to Alpha Bank and was appointed Chief of Corporate Centre & General Counsel, and Member of the Executive Committee, taking up responsibility for the areas of Strategy, Corporate Governance and Sustainability, Communications and Corporate Affairs, and Legal Services, as well as Human Resources, working closely with the Chief Human Resources Officer. Moreover, he is responsible for the administrative supervision of Compliance.
