The in-house legal team at the Bank of Greece, Greece’s central bank, is a highly talented group of lawyers spread around the country delivering top quality legal service, analysis and research to the financial institution. The Bank is responsible for the monitoring and implementation of Eurosystem monetary policy in Greece as well as the protection of the Greek financial system including, price levels, support of the government’s economic policy, as well as supervision of financial services and other regulatory functions. The team has been instrumental in the handling legal aspect of the Bank’s relationship with the European central bank which at times can be strained. The team has this year, contributed legal advice to the Bank’s decision making on its endorsement of the Principles for Responsible Banking, currently under consultation by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI).
