How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience? 

Legal plays an instrumental role alongside all business stakeholders to manage any risks and crises. At Daniel Wellington, I am pleased that our Legal Team is considered as a trusted partner and is always involved from the very early stages of any matter. As Legal, rather than being positioned as a ‘supporting function’, we stand in the front and play an important role in planning, making strategy, advising on risk management and decision making together with business stakeholders as ‘ONE TEAM’. With the early involvement of legal, we have better visibility of the background and can keep ourselves up to date with developments. This ‘ONE TEAM’ approach enables us to work without silos, allowing us to consider issues from different angles all at once. This aligns with our legal strategy to be an integrated part of the company business.

What measures has your company taken to embed sustainability practices into its core business operations, and how does the role of the general counsel contribute to driving and ensuring sustainable practices within the company?

As part of our corporate responsibility, Daniel Wellington takes sustainability seriously across all areas of our business operations. We have a Sustainability Officer to oversee our rights and obligations for compliance in various aspects of business operations. Legal is part of the Sustainability team and works together with different department to oversee and provide guidance on different areas, including design, sourcing, procurement, production, sales, packaging, repairs, product recycling, trade compliance, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, for instance. Daniel Wellington has included Sustainability into our Business Code of Conduct which is our north star to guide all our employee to observe and demonstrate the core company values of Daniel Wellington.  Legal also works with the sustainability officer on the annual sustainability report which we publish annually on our company official website.
