About

Rita Tang is the Assistant Chief Counsel and Head of Legal at Hong Kong Disneyland and has been with the company since 2009. Having established a career in the legal profession spanning over two decades, Rita is a seasoned in-house legal counsel who has contributed significantly to the business’ success. As the head of legal, Rita is responsible for the overall legal function at Hong Kong Disneyland. She provides strategic legal advice and direction to the management team, implementing corporate legal policies and advising on a wide spectrum of matters including commercial, corporate governance, compliance, employment, intellectual property, technology, resort operations, risk management, and dispute resolution. As Hong Kong Disneyland is a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong Government, Rita also plays an instrumental role in advising the board of directors and facilitating shareholders’ discussions on significant matters such as resort expansion.

Rita was born and raised in Hong Kong, where she developed a passion for law and justice from an early age. After graduating from Marymount Secondary School, she received a full scholarship from Dr Lee Shau Kee to study law at Wadham College at the University of Oxford. After obtaining an Honours degree in the Bachelor of Arts (Jurisprudence) from the University of Oxford, Rita completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws at the University of Hong Kong and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong.

Rita began her legal career as a trainee solicitor at Baker & McKenzie, Hong Kong office. She practised in the Commercial and Securities group where she honed her skills in corporate law and gained substantial experience in handling complex legal matters, including merger and acquisition, real estate investment trust, and initial public offerings. This laid a solid foundation for her future endeavours and eventually led her to be the head of legal at Hong Kong Disneyland.

During her time at Hong Kong Disneyland, Rita demonstrated exemplary performance and leadership qualities including collaboration, creativity, and inclusion. When Hong Kong Disneyland was under the impact of COVID-19, Rita played critical role in advising the business team in complying with the government pandemic measures while finding a way to operate and drive revenue despite restrictions. As tourism rebounded after the pandemic, Hong Kong Disneyland launched the first and largest Frozen-themed land, the World of Frozen, where Rita contributed significantly to the successful launch. In recognition of her contribution to the business success, Rita received The Walt Disney Legacy Award which is the highest honor within Disney Experiences that recognises exceptional individuals who demonstrated outstanding performance.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Rita is passionate about community engagement and developing future leaders. She actively mentors young legal professionals and emerging leaders, while participating in the company’s volunteer work as part of the Disney Volunteers programme. Rita is also a member of the Legal Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
