Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Group (HKEX)
HKEX is the operator of exchanges and clearing houses in Hong Kong, and one of the largest exchange groups in terms of market capitalisation in the world. It operates securities and derivatives markets and is a major regulator of companies listed in Hong Kong, which is noted as one of the globe’s most notable financial services centres. HKEX also owns the London Metal Exchange market, the largest of its kind. The legal team, managed by head of legal services and chief counsel Christine Wong, is responsible for ensuring the quality of the company’s regulatory function as well as managing new programmes and markets. For example, two years ago HKEX launched its “Bond Connect” programme creating a link and mutual access program between the Hong Kong Exchange and markets in mainland China in the form of the Bong Connect Company (BCCL). As part of its one year anniversary, further expansion measures were announced which will be supervised by the HKEX and its legal team including the implementation of a faster payment system, e-trading platforms, additional dealers and access to repo and derivatives markets.
