As head of legal and compliance at China Great Wall AMC (International) Holdings, Lulu Zhang, who practised in an international law firm for over a decade in both Hong Kong and New York, leads a team of two lawyers and one legal support staff, including senior legal counsel Lai Xing and Claudia Fung, and legal management trainee Jiang Xue Song. In the words of a nominator, Zhang ‘effortlessly runs a legal and compliance team that is at the forefront in dealing with key issues facing the credit market in China, with a relentless focus on delivering business-oriented advice and at the same time managing key regulatory and compliance risks’. The legal team supports and advises the company’s businesses and operations and is also responsible for dealing with communications with external parties such as regulators, external counsel and clients. The team is relatively new: Zhang, previously one of the four co-heads of the company’s legal department, was promoted to her current position in June 2018. While Lai, Fung and Jiang joined the company in January 2019, April 2018 and December 2018, respectively. Talking about her team ethos, Zhang says, ‘[we] strive for professionalism and efficiency while working collaboratively where a free flow of opinions are encouraged in an effort to provide well-founded advice in a constructive and timely manner to our businesses and senior management’.
