The arrival of group general counsel and chief compliance officer Judy Wong in October 2018 marks the foundation of the group office legal function of four lawyers, who had previously been based in and assigned to separate offices. Prior to Wong’s appointment, Tricor had no standardisation of practice, client service agreements or legal function and the different business functions in the various jurisdictions operated largely as distinct and separate entities. The establishment of the group legal function brings a centralised structure with direct reporting lines to the group general counsel as part of the Group’s operations and has already made a positive impact on the company. Tricor’s growth has been founded through the acquisition of accounting, company secretarial, share registration and related services from major international accounting firms and other leading professional firms and the legal function has helped with these acquisitions, including the acquisition of China’s most prominent corporate services company, Richful Deyong. Wong has also focused the team on implementing a group wide transformation strategy in managing risk and compliance for the Tricor Group’s overall legal affairs.
