What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Established in 2018, the Klook legal and public affairs team consists of more than ten professionals across five offices in Asia and Europe, which sets its vision firmly on empowering the growth of the company in a compliant, sustainable and responsible manner. The pandemic was a particularly challenging time for the travel industry. The team has taken on a pivotal role in guiding the company on its road to recovery, particularly on innovative business projects, one of which was Klook’s appointment as an authorized booking partner for Singapore Tourism Board’s S$320m SingapoRediscovers Vouchers (SRV) scheme, following a competitive tender. This was Singapore’s first national digital-only voucher scheme rolled out by the government, which saw Singapore citizens aged 18 and above being able to redeem S$100 worth of tourism vouchers at hotels, attractions, and tours across Singapore. Klook legal team was an integral part of the project team, which delivered innovative solutions in different areas, while ensuring commercial risks and privacy, and other legal concerns, were adequately addressed.

Apart from legal matters, has the team worked on other company initiatives?

Launched in 2023, our legal team also leads the sustainability and corporate social responsibility efforts of the company. Key areas of focus include community empowerment, animal welfare and carbon and waste reduction. Aligning with the United Nations 17 sustainable development goals, the team aims not just to ensure compliance with the relevant regulations, but also create a true and lasting impact. Most recently, the team has updated the company’s animal welfare policy, with assistance from NGOs. The revised policy aims to educate our customers and merchants to raise the bar on ensuring the negative impacts on animals in the tourism industry are minimised.
