What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

PCCW is a global company headquartered in Hong Kong which holds interests in telecommunications, media, IT solutions, property development and investment, and other businesses. The company holds a majority stake in the HKT Trust and HKT Limited, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider and leading operator of fixed-line, broadband, mobile communication and media entertainment services. HKT delivers end-toend integrated solutions employing emerging technologies to assist enterprises in transforming their businesses. HKT has also built a digital ecosystem integrating its loyalty programme, e-commerce, travel, insurance, big data analytics, fintech and health-tech services to deepen its relationship with customers.

The legal and company secretarial team supports all day-to-day operations of the multibusiness operations of both PCCW and HKT. The legal team also supports all new business initiatives and large M&A and strategic partnership projects, including the recent strategic partnership with Lenovo and Canal+.

What steps do you take to ensure effective communication and collaboration with external counsel and other stakeholders during the dispute resolution process?

We encourage open dialogue with our external advisers during contentious and non-contentious matters. In a dispute resolution process, we will work closely with our external advisers (through constant conferences) to ensure all aspects of concerns (business, reputational and legal) are considered and prioritised accordingly.

How does the in-house legal team contribute to the overall dispute resolution strategy of the organisation?

We have a dedicated in-house dispute resolution team, and we are therefore driving all our dispute resolution strategy within our organisation. We form the bridge between our business teams, external advisers and senior management when dealing with all disputes.
