General counsel | Natixis
Jose Carlos Tejada first joined the Spanish branch office of Natixis, the second largest banking group in France with 35 million clients spread over two retail banking networks, in August 2011. Tejada serves as the company’s general counsel and member of the management committee, where his role is to give full legal support to the activities of the branch and oversee the M&A activities in the Spanish market.
He is also a member of the board of the bank as well as a member of the directors committee, following up the business activity and preparing and revising contracts and related documents. Tejada has been responsible for integrating the legal department more deeply into the wider business, under the supervision and control of the legal department and all the business activity at branch level in the Iberian market. Overseeing all financial and capital markets activity, Tejada has been tasked with working closely with clients to execute deals in both areas and crossing information from both activities. He states this has ‘allowed us to speed-up our advice, providing a good level of services internally addressed to colleagues and externally to address our clients’.
With an extensive background in the banking and financial services industries, Tejada highlights Natixis taking control of a large-scale Spanish company in January 2016 as being one of the most significant transactions he was involved in, the transaction was successfully undertaken and Natixis now holds the main shareholder equity stake of 75%. Before his current role, Tejada previously served as the general counsel for HSBC Spain as well as occupying the position of the head of legal on capital markets, treasury and international area of Caja Madrid.
