First joining the company over a decade ago, Leandro Meneses is the deputy legal director of Técnicas Reunidas Group, and assists the Spanish-based general contractor in its various services of providing engineering, procurement and construction services, particularly in the oil and gas sector. Meneses joined as a lawyer responsible for the energy and nuclear areas and was promoted in February 2017 to his current role as deputy legal director, where he is in charge of four business units. As the deputy legal director he is directly involved in the management of the team and has exponentially changed the scope of the legal department, encouraging its involvement not only in the bidding process but also the execution of deals.
One way he hopes to achieve the team’s goals is by cultivating how the function can monitor and measure the effectiveness of its decisions. This, he says, includes measuring ‘the quality and feedback we receive from management has changed the way we work. I was in charge of bringing information that has become the department’s established rules. We are continuously working on them, again with the feedback we are receiving. The way we are managing risk within the legal department has been significantly impacted by those positions’. Over the years he has participated in a number of notable transactions in Europe and most recently an ongoing deal in Peru which received much acclaim and is the biggest of its kind in Latin America. In recognition for his contribution to these cases, Meneses has received internal awards for a large-scale European arbitration he participated in in 2017.
