Comprising over 100 businesses with annual revenues in excess of €15bn, the Galp Group is one of Portugal’s largest corporations. Head of legal operations at the prominent energy multinational is general counsel Rui de Oliveira Neves. He joined Galp in 2013 after a highly successful 14-year career in private practice at law firm Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados. Since joining the organisation he has been involved on a number of landmark projects and deals.

Most recently he worked on Galp’s 20-year LNG purchase and sales agreement with US company Venture Global which was announced in February 2018. The agreement will secure balanced and competitive sourcing for Galp’s international natural gas activities. His legal department, which covers both legal and compliance functions, consists of 15 lawyers in Portugal and a further seven reports in Spain. Well respected among colleagues and peers, Neves is rightfully considered as one of Portugal’s most talented in-house legal professionals.
