What are the most significant cases or transactions you and your team have been involved in?

This year, we have placed particular focus on the digitalisation of all legal contracts and all related activities including fulfilment of regulations relating to money laundering prevention, data protection and consumer regulations, as well as automated processes for homologation of providers. We have also developed a post covid-19 business continuity plan for different risk scenarios and have prepared updated compliance and risks prevention reports during the different phases, developing internal protocols and procedures, contingency and action plans and legal updates summarising enactment of new regulations affecting the business.

Even in the best-case scenario, Covid is likely to have far-reaching ramifications. How are you safeguarding the long-term health of the business?

We have digitalised many of our processes, and we are able to secure sale contracts online, including all related completion of money laundering prevention regulations and GDPR.

As we enter the next decade, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

Digital skills are becoming increasingly important: blockchain solutions, IT (Information Technology) tools to automate certain tasks in the legal field, such as automated contracts for reserves and sale agreements. IT tools are also increasingly important in the compliance and the internal audit areas, to define and apply key controls and increase internal control measures, to develop criminal compliance prevention systems and in general for all compliance programs, that are easily scalable and extendable to new subsidiaries or new businesses. Data analytics will also play a growing role. Overall, for corporate governance purposes, developing adequate IT tools will improve the reporting to the board of directors on all legal and compliance related areas with updated, precise information on all key areas.
