What are the most significant cases or transactions you and your team have been involved in?

The legal department at McKinsey is responsible for providing legal support that impacts the client’s firm globally; additionally, it oversees and protects the firm from legal and reputational risks. We advise the firm on new lines of business while supporting distinctive acquisitions – we are a real asset to the firm’s leadership team. We support more than 30k colleagues working in 130 cities, backing our day-to-day client service activity. Our multidisciplinary team works in various areas, including commercial arrangements, risk management, M&A, litigation and investigations, corporate, employment, immigration, data privacy and security, and other areas applied to a multitude of industries (more than 20) and functions.

Even in the best-case scenario, Covid is likely to have far-reaching ramifications. How are you safeguarding the long-term health of the business?

It is necessary to build resilience to safeguard the business’ long-term health. Resilience begins with trying to understand the future – scanning the horizon, generating scenarios, anticipating effects, and assessing resources through dynamic management and flexible operating models. Our department is pivotal in this process; being at the centre of the thinking process and in direct partnership with the management team, we prepare to manage risks and ensure institutional resilience in an ever-changing world. The business’ long-term health starts internally, but we are mindfully aware of the world surrounding us and the communities to which we belong. Therefore, we are committed to strengthening our presence outside the workplace – we seek opportunities in which we can offer our help, from academia to pro bono.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

The main focus will be on making the shift sustainable and inclusive growth. As a firm, we are committed to doubling our innovation rate to help our clients create and capture value faster.
