"Julia Bayónstarted her career in private practice at the law firm Uria & Menéndez, where she spent three years as an associate in the corporate and banking department. In 1995 she joined the Santander Group, first in the former subsidiary Banesto – where she was in charge of the business legal department – to then move to Banco Santander where she held various responsibilities.
She is currently the head of business legal and vice-secretary of the board of directors of Banco Santander, responsible for overseeing all legal matters relating to the various business units of the Group, with special focus in the corporate and investment banking division where she forms part of its executive committee. She is also a member of the board of directors of Banco Santander Perú.
Bayón has deep knowledge of all legal aspects related to the functioning of a bank and its legal, risk and regulatory environment, especially in relation to the different businesses with clients, including but not limited to corporate and investment banking, retail banking, asset management, private banking and digital assets, with a wide geographical cross border scope, inherent to an international group like Santander.
She successfully manages large and diverse teams in different geographies. Furthermore, from her senior role within the Group, Bayón serves as a role model to all, but specially to women, showing the path for a successful career in the legal profession while managing a large family. In this role, she actively engages as mentor to talented women within the different programs organized by Santander and other institutions (such as ESADE) to promote women in senior positions.
