Aena is the world’s largest airport manager by passenger numbers, processing over 240 million passengers a year through its network of 46 airports in Spain and 15 airports in other jurisdictions, including London’s Luton airport. Its wider business includes heliports, airport security, cargo, fuel services and commercial operations such as duty free and car rental. Although Aena is still state-owned through Spanish government air navigation manager ENAIRE’s 51% stake, it has been partially listed on the stock exchange since early 2015 and has been among the best performing companies in the market. The legal team, led by general counsel and compliance officer Marta Campomanes Camino since late 2015, is credited with handling this listing and Aena’s subsequent commercial transition successfully. It has also played an important role in helping it adjust its staffing model and take advantage of commercial opportunities outside Spain.
