Following the $1.3bn acquisition of R Cable (R Cable y Telecomunicaciones Galicia) by Euskaltel in 2015, the respective legal departments of the companies were integrated into a single legal team with locations in País Vasco and Galicia. Headed by Juan Manuel Sánchez Padrós, the team of seven lawyers and one paralegal render services to the telecommunications group and its individual companies. Sánchez Padrós says the integration ‘has meant the need to contrast how the work is done in each company and the different ways to solve similar legal issues. As a consequence, the practices have been implemented’. As part of this, Oscar Sevillano, chief legal counsel, is commended for successfully implementing a procedure to claim and recover debt and standard contract forms for several different types of agreements with providers and large account clients, resulting in financial and efficiency gains. Other notable members of the team include Cristina Sustacha who works on implementing new regulations such as a “Corporate Defense” program and Ana Pardo, ‘an expert in Public Administrations contracts’, which is vital for the company to be competitive and enjoy significant market penetration into public administrations. The team’s pedigree in working on large deals is well known in the industry. They were key cogs in the integration of Euskaltel and R Cable in 2015 as well as the former’s entry onto the stock market. In March 2017, the team worked on the establishment of a programme for the issuance of short term commercial papers (Euro-Commercial Paper Programme ECP) amounting to €200m.
