Barcelona-based Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) is a leading Spanish construction company, with 100 years of experience in the execution of civil work in the commercial and residential space. Obtaining approximately half of its revenues from outside of Spain, FCC employs over 50,000 people across 25 countries. Its ‘outstanding’ legal department plays a pivotal role in the strategic development of the business and supports all commercial lines across Spain. Comprised of lawyers in its three major divisions – FCC Environmental, FCC Water and FCC Infrastructure – the department has provided legal support for many flagship projects across the world, including the New Europe Bridge between Bulgaria and Romania, the Torre Caja Madrid Tower and the Pasajul Basarab road overpass in Bucharest among others. In 2015, the team was involved in the signing of a key strategic agreement with Carso Infraestructuras y Construccion, a company owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, to complete construction projects in Latin America. The transaction has opened the door for FCC to tap into the high growth potential in the Americas by maximising its opportunity to pursue public work contracts in the region.
