Red Eléctrica de España is responsible for the management of Spain’s national high-voltage transmission grid and oversees the maintenance and development of the national electricity network. Although part-state owned, the IBEX 35 company is a key constituent of the Bolsa de Madrid. Nominators said the team has delivered ‘outstanding advice [to the business] in its operations both inside and outside Spain’, helping to make it ‘one of the best governed Spanish corporations’. The wider Red Eléctrica Corporación (of which the Spanish national grid is a subsidiary) is also engaged in the finance and reinsurance of electricity assets, as well as interests in the telecoms sector. A number of subsidiaries owned by the company are involved in electricity transmission in markets outside Spain, including Chile and Peru.
