Técnicas Reunidas is an IBEX 35 company with revenues of over €4bn. It provides engineering, procurement and construction services and has particular expertise in the oil and gas sector. Nominators gave special mention to the Energy, Nuclear, HTD and R&D legal team, led by deputy legal director Leandro Meneses, which has helped Técnicas Reunidas grow through their internal innovations. This team of eight lawyers, two assistants and four contract managers has recently reorganised to be even more effective in facilitating the company’s transactions and negotiations. Meneses says that ‘each project executed has a lawyer and contract manager. The dual reporting structure means both parties have an overview – one is on the ground, the other at HQ so now the department is both close to the problems but also has someone at HQ to sign off the resolution’. This approach has bought important efficiencies that can give business peers a competitive advantage on their projects. Although the team has had to handle a number of problems arising out of Britain’s exit from the European Union, Meneses believes that they have been able to ‘work together with key clients, key vendors and key subcontractors to come up with a successful proposal to move forward by limiting risks’. The team’s ethos of being ‘pushed to deal with new scenarios, to be very close to the business with an aim to improve and develop into one of the best legal teams has continued to produce fantastic results for the company’.
