Tecnocom
Tecnocom’s IT consultancy services are highly prized, and they count as clients 23 of the IBEX 35 and 60 of the top 100 companies in Spain, with other endeavours abroad in Portugal and Latin America as well. Its legal team is led by head of legal Javier Cubillo, who has over 20 years’ experience in the legal sector. Legal advice manager Maria Belén Fernández Quintas explains how the legal function within Tecnocom is a varied operation: ‘We are not just confined to legal matters, the scope of the legal department is much wider. Transactions, litigation, contracting, securities markets, corporate, regulatory, and others are part of the day-to-day business of the legal department at Tecnocom’. The team in Spain is made up of six lawyers, with a further four located in South America to support business activities directly there. Further to recent regulatory changes on compliance and criminal issues related to company liability, Fernández explains: ‘The [Spanish] legal team has been actively involved in the preparation of a system to prevent criminal risks, and in the amendment of conduct codes which have been recently approved by the Group. Additionally, jointly with other areas, the legal department has developed a guide of “red lines” to be taken into consideration by Tecnocom’s business units to negotiate agreements with our customers, partners and suppliers’. Tecnocom was recently the subject of a takeover by Spanish-based Indra Sistemas, and the legal team has been heavily involved in the smooth transition of this major development for Tecnocom. Fernández goes into the team ethos that allows them to fulfil these demanding objectives: ‘Be decisive is our leitmotiv. Given the size, all Tecnocom in-house lawyers are outstanding and have created a cohesive team, which makes it a successful one. We also have a flat management structure, which means that all lawyers of Tecnocom’s legal department are empowered to make decisions’.
