French aerospace, defence, security and ground transportation systems company Thales Group has been present in Portugal since 1990, where it has developed a strong presence in passenger transport. It is also a controlling shareholder in Portuguese aerospace and defence technologies company Edisoft, one of the leading providers of software to both civilian and military security companies. Led by Paulo Lino Martins, general counsel for Thales Portugal and Edisoft, the legal team has built a reputation for working closely with key stakeholders to help cement Thales’ position as a major supplier to Portuguese public procurement projects. The team is credited with ‘building and maintaining solid relationships with commercial managers and other key constituencies in Thales’ business, both internal and external, while also managing a large volume of daily legal work. This has helped cement the company’s place in the Portuguese market’. Thales has recently furthered its commitment to Portugal by launching an Innovation Hub in cooperation with the country’s largest and most prestigious science and engineering college, the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).
