Deutsche Bank is present in Portugal with several operations in corporate and investment banking. These include global transaction banking services to Portuguese and international corporate clients, government institutions and financial institutions. The legal team is led by head of legal Rita Rendeiro, an expert in banking and finance law, and leads a team that deals with structured finance transactions, residential mortgage backed securitisation, SME and consumer loans and other equity related areas. In 2018 the team worked on Deutsche Bank’s agreement to sell its local private and commercial banking business in Portugal to ABANCA Corporación Bancaria, allowing Deutsche Bank to reduce complexity in its areas of operation. The legal team has been integral in ensuring a smooth transition, partnering with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders. Deutsche Bank continues to stay present in Portugal, with over 41 branches, 50,000 clients and 330 employees in the country.
