Indra is one of the world’s leading global technology and consulting companies, and the technological partner for the core business operations of its customers worldwide. The legal team in Portugal is a part of Indra’s global legal department and is made up of two lawyers – legal manager Luís Graça Rodrigues and lawyer Sofia Pires Nunes. The headquarters of the global legal department is in Madrid and the Portuguese team is based in Lisbon. During the past two years, the legal team has contributed largely to the acquisition of Tecnocom, whose Portuguese subsidiary has a similar size to Indra Portugal. As Tecnocom Portugal didn’t have an internal legal department, the legal team of Indra Portugal faced a considerable increase in workload and a huge challenge of its management capacities, however the team handled the situation well and regarded it as ‘an amazing learning opportunity’, according to Rodrigues. The legal team has also been involved in the expansion of Indra’s projects in Africa, dealing with increased regulation of the IT sector in Portuguese speaking African countries, daily coordination with different subjects regarding specific contract negotiations and employment relations, as well as daily interaction with various lawyers and in-house counsels from different countries. Talking about the team culture, Rodrigues states: ‘I believe that the main trait of, not only the Portuguese legal team, but Indra’s legal departments in other countries, is our deep knowledge of our client’s business and our 100% availability towards our client’s needs. [This is] either during the negotiation of a contract or during its implementation, ensuring the most favourable contractual conditions are met. This means that when our client needs us we are there. And where our client needs us – either in Portugal or in an African country like Mozambique, Angola or Cape Verde – we are there’.
