Jerónimo Martins is one of the largest Iberian corporate groups, with almost 100,000 employees that operate in food distribution and specialised retail. Jerónimo Martins operate a number of well-known stores including Pingo Doce supermarkets in its home market of Portugal. With plans to expand particularly in Portugal, the legal team is tasked with securing a number of joint ventures and cooperation with other large global operators. One example is its work on the joint venture with Ahold Delhaize for the Pingo Doce chain of supermarkets, as well as a joint venture with Unilever which created Jerónimo Martins Unilever, a partnership formed to distribute a range of Unilever’s global brands domestically in Portugal. In 2018, the legal team was also central to acquiring five stores from one of its Polish competitors – Piotr i Pawel.
