Sacyr Somague
The legal team of Sacyr Somague Portugal comprises of five lawyers, with two senior in-house lawyers based in the Lisbon offices; one mainly responsible for bidding processes with public and private clients of the company, notably negotiations, drafting and revising contracts and public law. The other in-house lawyer is mainly responsible for collections, insolvency and bankruptcy proceedings and litigation and also provide support to several joint ventures. Chief legal officer Carlos Eduardo Gil coordinates the work of the in-house legal team to support the services of the company in Portugal and abroad. The team also has an in-house lawyer within a subsidiary group in the Portuguese island of Azores (Sacyr Ediçor) who is in charge of all legal aspects of the subsidiary, under the coordination of the chief legal officer. Currently, there is also an in-house lawyer present in Angola, where the company has very significant operations. ‘This person is in charge of the legal aspects of our Angolan subsidiary, under the coordination of the chief legal officer. We are currently in the process of hiring an in-house for one of our subsidiaries and another in-house for Portugal in Lisbon, as the operations require additional internal support, in order to resort less to external counselling, reducing the costs arising therefrom’, says Gil.
