About

Sean Martin is the chief legal officer and general counsel of Generate Biomedicines, overseeing all legal and compliance matters. Founded by Flagship Pioneering, Generate Biomedicines is a private company headquartered in Somerville, Mass. The company is the first drug generation company, pioneering a machine learning-powered generative biology platform with the ability to create new drugs on demand across a wide range of biologic modalities. Since joining Generate in 2022, Sean has quickly assembled a powerful, deeply experienced team of outstanding senior attorneys responsible for all intellectual property, contracting, business development, and licensing matters.

“I am thrilled to join a brilliant and fun team of industry veterans that hope to dramatically improve the human condition and democratise biotherapeutics. Our core values are what drew me to Generate. We are audaciously ambitious, fiercely united, unapologetically scientific, relentlessly curious, and intrinsically digital. To be able to assemble and work with a great new legal team – centred around these principles, is very exciting.”

Previously, Sean was general counsel and senior vice president at the healthcare company, Baxter International Inc. He successfully oversaw the legal, compliance, and government affairs for several key projects, including the largest acquisition in Baxter’s history, Hillrom.

Prior to that role, Sean was general counsel, senior vice president and secretary at Apollo Education Group, vice president of commercial law and corporate law at Amgen, and deputy general counsel at Fresenius Medical Care, North America.  He was also a partner at Foley & Lardner and a federal criminal prosecutor at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.
