What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Over the law year, employment and product liability matters have been the most significant cases that we have been involved in and I would assume most companies would be facing the same battles.

Which recent political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?

In the past year, the laws around noncompete agreements/covenants and the changing landscape of employment laws caused Arjo to pivot quickly to make changes within our organization. Additionally, wage transparency laws caused Arjo to adapt in its recruiting and retention policies and procedures given the additional requirements placed upon employers. Similarly to other medical device/equipment companies the increasing cost of labor and supplies caused Arjo to reevaluate the way in which it sells its products to healthcare facilities across the U.S., while ensuring the safety and integrity of our products and ultimately, our brand.

How does your legal team collaborate with other departments within the company?

The contracts or legal team is an integral part of Arjo’s success. This success requires us to collaborate and interact with every department within the company to provide legal and contractual support. We work a lot with sales due to our responsibility of drafting and negotiating contracts, which is essential to driving revenue for the company. Arjo has service and clinical teams all throughout the U.S. and we work to support them related to our service agreements and clinical solutions. Personally, I work with marketing, finance, human resources and IT on a daily basis to ensure that Arjo’s legal interests are protected and Arjo remains in compliance with the changing laws and regulations within the U.S.
