Joydeep Banerjee is a legal, contracts and management professional, with broad experience in areas such as aviation, consumer durable, data centre and communication, education, engineering procurement and construction, food and beverages, finance, health care systems and medical electronics, hospitality, information technology, industrial engineering and manufacturing and insurance. He has also great involvement in other sectors like insurance, infra logistics, mechanical electrical and plumbing, operation and maintenance, power and gas, estate, renewable energy, retail, securities, shipping, transmission and distribution sectors. 

As legal professional for over two decades of experience, Joydeep has moved between private practice and internal legal roles, including major conglomerate Blue Star, Raymond, Sterling & Wilson, and has been dealing with domestic and international arbitrations, contracts and commercial negotiations, ethics and compliance, litigation and non-litigation, legal audits and risk assessments, statutory and regulatory affairs, and corporate strategies, with work exposure in India, Russia, China, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, UAE, amongst others. 

After moving to his current role as head of the legal department, Joydeep has a varied portfolio of responsibilities. Joydeep’s daily work includes arbitrations, litigations, documentation, and negotiations. Joydeep has played his part in several positive moves within the department, most of which are aimed at improving efficiency, and which have had an appreciable effect on the running of their legal function, in line with business requirements. For Joydeep, as an in-house counsel, you are expected not only to ensure compliance but also to understand the business need to achieve the company’s targets, as he aims to conduct as much legal work through the in-house team as possible, preferring to capitalise on the economic benefits that this allows, rather than through instructing external counsel.
