What is the biggest risk facing your industry now and how are you preparing your organisation to deal with this?

The industry’s most considerable risk is data management, especially considering India’s upcoming data privacy laws. We, as a team, have kept pace with the evolving situation and data privacy laws. Adequate preparation has been done at the organisation level by taking proactive steps, which include planning ahead by building an effective privacy and compliance strategy for the company.

What are some of the most significant cases or transactions you have worked on recently?

The business has undergone significant regulatory scrutiny on various matters. Being in charge of the office of General Counsel, I took the lead in ensuring that the company was compliant. I have also advised on minimising the risk and exposure in significant litigations.

Furthermore, I worked to redesign the organisation to simplify the structure while making it fully compliant with legal requirements. Significant work has been done to streamline the governance of the business. As head of the office of General Counsel of KPMG in India, I have worked on various transactions ranging from advising and counselling the CEO, the Board, and the management team, strategising disputes at a pre-litigation stage, handling litigations for the firm and designing policies and procedures.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, you are passionate about and why?

I firmly believe that in-house teams can deliver like any private practice. I am passionate about building a knowledgeable and experienced team in providing high-quality services. Steering and motivating sound, confident professionals bring an immense sense of satisfaction and fulfilment to me. I also believe that we have to live in the moment. Empathy and humility are essential for any profession and particularly for a leader. I would like to implement the same in my day-to-day work and decision-making process and do my bit for this honourable profession.
