How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected your company and the team’s priorities?
It is critical for us to do our part towards our environment in an effort to create a more sustainable future. At FamPay, we strive to instil this feeling in our members through various initiatives and mandates as part of our internal policies. To name a few:
We run campaigns and initiatives encouraging our users and internal members to donate their FamCoins (virtual coins earned on the app) for facilitating donations and planting trees. This enables us to create environmental consciousness in our young audience.
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, we recently tweaked our supply-chain mechanics and packaging materials for the cards we ship to our users. Our packaging now consists of environmentally friendly materials which result in saving resources.
In order to ensure engagement, we recently organised an internal session on climate action through a changemaker (who also happens to be a member of our growth team). The session was geared towards inspiring members to start making small changes (such as, employing the glass half-full method) in their daily lives and adopting some equally healthy habits for the planet.
How important is choosing to work with external lawyers who align with your company’s values? Are you likely to reconsider what firms you work with based on this?
For FamPay as an organisation, culture and values come first. In fact, we onboard contractors and advisors only after they pass a culture test, regardless of how competent they may be in their technical expertise. The values that we believe in, and the work ethics with which FamPay and the legal teamwork, must, therefore, align with what external lawyers, who we are entrusting our work with, think and act.
Honestly, there has not been a circumstance where I have had to reconsider FamPay’s association with a law firm, because having an external law firm advise us will happen only after they have passed the famous ‘culture test’ of FamPay. This is very important for both my management and me.
What is a cause, business or otherwise, you are passionate about and why?
I am particularly passionate about the goal of maintaining a healthy lifestyle at work for both myself and my team. The recipe to strike this balance is rooted in structured mentorship and delegation. With the right amount of guidance and training, one can instil the feeling of ownership in the members of the team which leads to less involvement at a senior level. I have always believed in this mantra, and this has helped me throughout my career across organisations. Fortunately, I have never had any issues in maintaining an adequate work-life balance, a great share of which goes to the leadership I have had a chance to work with throughout.
