Can you tell us a little about your significant accomplishments over the last few years, as a team or by yourself?

I am a corporate lawyer with over 20 years of experience, having worked in private practice and as an in-house lawyer in senior management roles with large global corporations. I am a dual-qualified lawyer enrolled to practice in India and the State of New York, USA.

I have diverse experience working both for industrial and retail companies. Have expertise in handling complex commercial transactions, litigation and arbitration; employment, real estate, and intellectual property matters; and managing corporate and regulatory compliance. I have been a member of executive teams and have worked on strategic initiatives to accelerate business growth and drive regional operational efficiencies.

In my current role, I lead UBL’s legal and compliance function and am part of the management team. I am responsible for all legal and compliance matters, including all corporate, litigation and intellectual property across geographies. I am a strategic legal adviser to the board and senior management.

Have any recent political, economic or regulatory changes impacted your work? How are you dealing with this?

In the current VUCA environment, as an in-house general counsel, my focus is on risk anticipation and prevention, not just remediation. I am driving initiatives that foster an environment where governance and compliance become part of the organisation’s culture and ethos.

With cost pressures and a constantly changing regulatory landscape, it is imperative that general counsel, such as myself, not just build highly efficient teams but also deploy legal tech, streamline internal processes, use standardisation, explore self-service models and perhaps consider outsourcing as well.
