Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

We continue to implement productivity measures in our legal and compliance department. There are multiple examples of bringing innovation in order to bring more productivity. For example, enabling business teams to finalise and execute contracts on their own up to a certain value; creating a standard template across the globe; creating SOPs for business functions globally; using existing AI tools for legal and compliance; leveraging current CLM to its maximum potential; optimising the licences of existing tools but increase their usage. These are just a few examples; however, productivity is a goal that we have set for our department: do more with less. This goal automatically requires us to find innovations that help us to be more productive. 

If you had to give advice to an aspiring in-house lawyer or general counsel, what would it be and why? 

Be more service oriented, get embedded into business, create value through your advice, be a commercial lawyer than just being a lawyer, get trained in business more to bring in practical solutions, engage more.
