Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

Recently, we have designed a compliance grid and dashboard for the organisation, encompassing the compliances of all domains and departments. When automated, the trigger mechanism records and uploads the transactions of the compliances. This automation project has enabled us to track all the compliances applicable to the organisation in a very efficient way, which has helped the organisation to track the compliances, and also to provided tools to the management and to the legal and compliance team to see how the organisation is faring from the compliance standpoint. Furthermore, the whole tool will also have the repository of all the compliance transactions triggered completed or not done. This project was done in-house, and we saved huge expenses on consultancy and the IT software. 

If you had to give advice to an aspiring in-house lawyer or general counsel, what would it be and why?  

I would advise aspiring lawyers to make efforts to step into the shoes of the management. It is crucial to understand the business of the organisation that they are in, end to end. They should step up their game when the delivery happens in meetings or over emails. They should also learn how they can be best articulative when they provide guidance, opinions as its pertinent how we do the delivery.  

The better the quality of delivery, the better the chances of success.
