Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
Legal teams’ ability to work effectively depends on access to the key data at the right time. We implemented digital edge approaches to the organisation’s entire legal framework to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accuracy. We introduced a notice management system for end-to-end solutions this year, which includes reviewer and reporting mechanisms, and advanced compliance management systems.
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Apart from closing strategic high-level contracts on speciality chemicals, we provided transaction support for the twin acquisitions in the pharmaceuticals space. This year, we saw significant regulatory changes that affected our main and ancillary activities. The team demonstrated prompt flexibility in becoming acquainted with these regulations and supporting the change for operations.
If you had to give advice to an aspiring in-house lawyer or general counsel, what would it be and why?
Be precise and direct, and when you are uncertain, take a conservative approach with the lens of compliance. As an in-house employee, it may be necessary to act quickly instead of pursuing perfection. To establish strong relationships, one must also possess strong emotional intelligence. Ones’ focus should be on the critical tasks and should aim to identify tools that can help you deal with them.
