Focus on: My career

More than a conscious career choice, law has always been a passion for me. As a student, I was always an active participant in competitive debates, elocutions and essay writing competitions and was ranked highly in numerous tournaments on the regional, provincial and national level. Being honoured as the school captain for the year 2005-06, during my tenure, I learned the leadership skills, the art of projecting my views with conviction and confidence, some virtues that lay the foundation of a lawyer. My first brush with law at the age of 17, at a seminar on legal studies, made me realise my view at the world was only through an ajar, and persuaded me to look beyond my science background at the riveting sphere of legal studies and how best fit I am to study and practice law.

I was able to achieve this goal when I secured a place in the first cut-off list in D.E.S. Navalmal Firodia Law College, University of Pune. My pursuit for excellence and a dedicated approach towards academics helped me consistently rank among the top five students in a batch of 130 students. 

After graduating in the year 2013, I joined Jurisperitus Law Offices, New Delhi as a legal associate and was involved in handling project finance and commercial litigation matters. I also had the privilege to work on a few prestigious matters with Dr. Ashwani Kumar, former Minister of Law and Justice, Government of India. At Jurisperitus I primarily worked on corporate and regulatory matters relating to foreign investments in India, structuring and documentation relating to acquisitions and joint ventures, including legal and regulatory due- diligence and debt financing of projects and businesses.

Subsequently, I joined Gravitas Legal, Delhi (formerly known as Khaitan Sud and Partners) in May 2015. At Gravitas Legal, although I joined in the capacity of a junior associate, however owing to my motivation and exceptional performance I was promoted to Senior Associate in a short span of time. I primarily handled a vast range of transactions involving banking, financing and general corporate advisory. I was also regularly involved in advising clients on merger and acquisition strategies, private equity investment and downstream investments. I had represented leading power generation companies in stock sales of renewable energy projects and had assisted them in drafting and negotiating complex documentations. While at Gravitas Legal I had demonstrated remarkable level of expertise, be it in handling complex due diligence, drafting intricate legal documents, or navigating the intricacies of corporate transactions.

In the quench for more exposure and knowledge and in order to align my area of interest, I decided to shift in-house and I joined Apraava Energy Private Limited in May 2020. At Apraava I lead the M&A and project financing vertical and I report to Sudipta Ghosh, the General Counsel, Apraava Energy.

I joined Apraava in the year 2020 as a deputy legal counsel and since then I have grown with the organisation. In 2022, I was promoted to manager. In 2021 I was also awarded the Service Excellence Award by Apraava for my exceptional contribution to the organisation.

Professionally, I have been privileged to be recognised with the Apraava Energy legal team for our relentless and exceptional work. In the current year, Apraava Energy’s legal team has been recognised as the In-House Team of the Year 2023 under ‘Energy and Resources’ category by India Business Law Journal. We have also received the prestigious title of ‘the Legal Team of the Year (Small Size)’ at the Legal Era’s 12th Annual Indian Legal Awards 2022-23. I am also honored to state that the legal team won the Best Energy and Resources In-House Team of the Year 2022 at the 4th Annual ALB India Law Awards.

Throughout my life, I have been lucky to be surrounded by strong women figures, who have inspired and encouraged me. I hope that I can similarly inspire women in the future.
