It is vital to be able to provide definitive advice and take decisions collaboratively, rather than merely setting out the legal position and asking business partners to take a decision. It is equally important to understand that risk is inherent in most transactions, and to be able to appreciate that risk in its proper context. Supporting business partners appropriately in negotiations also goes a long way: striking the right balance between compromise and protection.
