Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) was set up in 1988 with the initial processing capacity of 3.0 million metric tonnes per annum and has expanded over the years to a capacity of 15 million metric tonnes per annum and into one of India’s highest earning companies. As the only refinery in India to have two hydrocrackers producing premium diesel, the reputable refinery company had a turnover of $9bn during the last financial year. The legal team recently welcomed head of legal, Al Rafeeq Moideen, to the department, an outstanding individual who amasses over 20 years’ experience in the field. Between them, the team share an abundance of legal experience, using it to support the appraisal and approval of various schemes of infrastructure. The team is well known for its excellent conduction of litigations as well as for providing legal opinions on various issues including joint ventures and significant business restructures. Recently, team members have been tasked with a proposed merger with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, which is seen as inevitable for two giants in the refining and marketing industry. Although this merger is predicted to affect its employee landscape, the team is prepared to combat this by easing the transition and assisting with new hirings to support expansion plans.
