Vodafone India employs a sizeable operational legal team comprised of 55 in-house legal professionals based across the country. With an exciting blend of young and up-and-coming professionals and more experienced in-house lawyers, the function provides strategic legal support to Vodafone and its group companies, which record a combined turnover of $7bn. In the last few years, the team is said to have efficiently struck ‘a correct balance between governance and profitability with growth’ according to a nominating source, in providing support to all aspects of any company operations. This has in part been achieved thanks to the team’s efforts to embrace technology in its internal ways of working, such as, for instance its use of the dispute management system “Jurisbridge”. The team has been recognised internally as a “Future Fit Legal Function” by winning the coveted VOscar Awards twice in the last five years. In the past year, the team also impressed by successfully facilitating a large IT outsourcing deal with significant potential financial commitment and business continuity implications, impressing with its internal negotiation and drafting, as well the successful closure of strategic litigations.
