‘Anthony Philip is the general counsel of the Monument Re Group. The Monument Re Group is an “insurance aggregator” which seeks to assume asset based risk within its risk appetite and efficiently operate and consolidate insurance businesses. Philip has over twenty years of experience serving as a barrister and attorney in the financial services industry in Bermuda. Prior to joining the Monument Re Group, Philip was CEO of AIG Bermuda. Prior to that, he was senior vice president and general counsel of AIG Bermuda. Philip has served as a senior legal adviser with Flagstone Reinsurance, West End Capital Management (Bermuda) (a fund management company) and Appleby, Spurling and Kempe Barristers and Attorneys. He was also the manager of the companies, partnerships and permits division at the BMA. Philip is truly a global general counsel overseeing acquisitions by the Monument Re Group in Ireland, the Channel Islands, the UK, Belgium and other European territories. Philip also advises on the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to Monument Re, the Group’s Bermudan based reinsurer. Philip’s role is time intensive, complex and demanding. He is, however, always calm, collected and unflappable under pressure. He is a calming presence on high pressured multi-jurisdictional deals and has an ability to get the best from his internal team and from his external advisors. Philip’s wealth of experience allows him to identify issues that arise across various legal and regulatory frameworks and to drive innovative legal solutions.
